Description
The School of Natural Resources and the Environment is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Temporary Gastropod Field Technician located in Logan County, WV. We are hiring a summer field technician to assist on a project related to habitat management and gastropods. The technician will help a graduate student set up monitoring plots, collect data on snail abundance, perform species identification of snails, and assist with data entry and equipment upkeep.
What You'll Do
- Monitoring plot set up: 20% of time
- Gastropod abundance data collection: 50% of time
- Gastropod species identification: 15% of time
- Data entry and organization: 10% of time
- Equipment upkeep: 5% of time
Pay Grade: 10
Length of Assignment: 4.5 Months
Work Hours: 37.5 Hours per week
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or coursework in wildlife biology, ecology, or related field
- 0-6 months of experience involving:
- Basic gastropod species identification or experience using a dichotomous key (preferred)
- Ability to work both independently and part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work in harsh weather conditions and in difficult terrain
- Basic knowledge of data entry in Excel
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

- Valid driver's license.
