Job Description:
SUNY Broome Community College is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Ice Center Assistant. This role assists with the daily operations of the SUNY Broome Ice Center, including rink operations, facility maintenance, customer service, programs, and events.
This appointment is provisional pending satisfactory completion of the Civil Service testing requirement.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with daily rink operations, including public skating, lessons, rentals, athletic activities, and special events.
- Monitor rink activities and enforce safety rules, emergency procedures, and campus standards.
- Monitor ice and facility conditions and operate the Zamboni and other rink equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, including operation of the skate sharpener.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment and spaces for programs, events, and rentals.
- Issue, fit, collect, and maintain rental skates and related equipment.
- Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of the rink, locker rooms, and rental areas.
- Provide professional customer service and respond to questions, concerns, and incidents.
- Complete incident and accident reports and communicate safety or operational concerns to management and Public Safety.
- Assist with updates to digital information, including hours, events, and emergency closings.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree and one (1) year of ice rink experience; or a High school diploma or equivalency, and three (3) years of ice rink experience.
- Knowledge of ice rink safety and closed-loop refrigeration systems.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, work in cold environments, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Possession of a valid appropriate level Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship from the employer.
Additional Information:
The hourly rate for this position is $19.18.
