Job Summary:

The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a faculty position in the tenure track (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor). Scientists with a research program focused on aging and extending the healthspan are particularly encouraged to apply. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to aging-related research in the following areas:

  • Immune system dysregulation during aging
  • Age-related chronic inflammation (inflammaging)
  • Immune-based interventions to extend healthspan
  • Stem cell biology and regenerative medicine
  • Role of metabolism and the microbiome
  • Neuroscience and neuroinflammatory mechanisms
  • Immuno-oncology

We aim to build upon and expand existing strengths within the School of Veterinary Medicine and foster collaborative research across UW-Madison within a campus-wide hiring initiative: Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly (RISE)-THRIVE (Transforming Healthspan through Research, InnoVation, and Education) initiative. RISE-THRIVE is set to harness and grow the university’s reputation as a global powerhouse in interdisciplinary health research — translating both medical discoveries and innovative social science approaches into tangibly healthier lives for Wisconsinites and people and communities around the world.

The successful candidate will be expected to build and maintain a nationally recognized and externally funded research program. Strong candidates will capitalize on UW–Madison’s interdisciplinary strengths to pursue basic or translational investigations that enhance healthspan in humans and animals. Areas of interest include therapeutics, precision medicine, metabolism, biomarker identification, innovative animal modeling, omics-based approaches, One Health initiatives, microbiome research, nutrition, and the mechanisms underlying healthy aging.

Key Job Responsibilities:

The candidate will participate in the School of Veterinary Medicine's research, teaching, and service programs. Specifically, they will be expected to conduct collaborative extramurally funded translational research in an area related to healthy aging and extending healthspan. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to make significant contributions to the veterinary curriculum and to mentor graduate students and/or postdoctoral trainees. Participation in departmental and university service and a commitment to fostering a collegial and supportive academic environment are expected. The approximate distribution of effort will be 70% research, 20% teaching, 10% academic service.

Participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments, schools and colleges

Required Qualifications:

At least two years of postdoctoral experience, with a record of research excellence and demonstrated potential for extramural funding.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants with a research program focused on aging and extending the healthspan.

Education:

Applicants must hold an advanced degree (PhD, DVM, or MD)
