About UNSW: UNSW isn’t like other places you’ve worked. Yes, we’re a large organisation with a diverse and talented community, a community doing extraordinary things. Together, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical, and purposeful in all we do. Taking this combined approach is what makes our work matter. If you want a career where you can thrive, be challenged and do meaningful work, you’re in the right place.

Why Your Role Matters:
UNSW Planning and Performance (UPP) is a key strategic function providing management information, analysis and insights to support decision-making across the University. As Impact Data Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how UNSW understands, evidences and strengthens its contribution to society.

Working closely with the Societal Impact Framework (SIF) team and the Enterprise Data Office, you will lead the design and evolution of impact indicators, data frameworks and analytical approaches across education, research, engagement and operations. This is not a maintenance or reporting role. It is a role for someone who can exercise judgement in complexity, balancing rigour, feasibility and usefulness as approaches to impact measurement mature.

You will work with diverse stakeholders across Faculties and Divisions, translating complex, imperfect and multi‑source qualitative and quantitative data into clear, actionable insights for senior leaders, supporting delivery of UNSW’s strategy Progress for All. The role reports to the Head of Planning and Performance and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and continuously refine impact indicators and measurement approaches aligned to UNSW strategy
  • Integrate qualitative and quantitative data from multiple internal and external sources to generate meaningful insights
  • Apply strong analytical judgement to navigate ambiguity, data limitations and competing priorities
  • Develop and test new frameworks, measures and methodologies within a large, complex organisation
  • Identify and assess appropriate internal and third-party data sources to strengthen impact measurement
  • Improve the quality, reliability and accessibility of impact data in collaboration with data owners
  • Streamline data processes through standardisation and use of tools including AI
  • Translate complex analysis into clear, concise insights tailored to non-technical senior stakeholders
  • Develop fit-for-purpose reporting and visualisations to support executive and operational decision-making
  • Design and implement data quality controls in collaboration with relevant teams to align with University policies and to support fair and unbiased representation

For more information regarding the responsibilities for this role, please refer to the Position Description at JOBS@UNSW.

Skills and Experience Summary:

  • Experience designing frameworks, indicators or approaches to demonstrate value or impact in complex organisations
  • Strong capability in both qualitative and quantitative analysis, including integrating diverse data types and working with large datasets
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound analytical judgement in complex, ambiguous environments
  • Experience developing new measures or methodologies, balancing rigour with practical constraints
  • Proficiency with data tools and platforms (e.g. SQL/PySpark, Python, R, SPSS, Power BI, Qualtrics, NVivo, APIs)
  • Experience integrating AI into analytical workflows
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience (qualitative analysis, social sciences or statistics desirable)
  • Excellent communication skills, with proven ability to translate complex evidence into clear, actionable insights for non-technical senior stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
