Faculty position in Infectious Diseases,

Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine.

The University of Tennessee invites applications from all qualified individuals for a full-time tenure-track or non-tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Infectious Diseases in the Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine. This position offers the successful candidate a unique opportunity to blend diagnostic service, research, and teaching in the area of infectious diseases.

The candidate is expected to contribute to teaching within our professional (DVM) and graduate programs, with a preferred ability to teach bacteriology, virology and/or immunology. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research program focusing on infectious diseases and is strongly encouraged to engage in collaborative interdisciplinary research efforts. The areas of research interests may include, but are not limited to, infectious disease pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, combating antimicrobial resistance, and the development of diagnostic methods and vaccines. The successful candidate will join a team of four faculty microbiologists (one bacteriologist, two parasitologists, and one virologist) and actively support diagnostic microbiology services within the college.

The College of Veterinary Medicine currently matriculates 100 DVM students annually, with many pursuing additional graduate degrees in our intercollegiate Comparative and Experimental Medicine graduate program. The department is home to diagnostic laboratories in bacteriology, endocrinology, parasitology, pathology (anatomic and clinical), virology, and pharmacology. (https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/vmc/dls), providing services to the College’s Veterinary Medical Center and referring veterinarians across the country.

Faculty enjoy full access to the University's core research and service facilities in advanced microscopy and ultrastructural imaging, UTIA genomic Core, and biological and small molecule mass spectrometry, among others. Advanced computing and modeling expertise are available through the University, NIMBioS, and in conjunction with Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Knoxville is home to the University of Tennessee's flagship campus and is a beautiful and friendly place to live. It is a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountains, other state parks, and recreation areas. Outdoor recreational opportunities include, but are not limited to, hiking, biking, trail running, climbing, and water sports. Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have: (1) a DVM (or equivalent degree) or relevant PhD; (2) a record of peer-reviewed scientific publications; (3) strong verbal and written communication skills; (4) ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Preference will be given to those with DVM (or equivalent) and PhD degrees and those who are board certified or board eligible by the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists and have post-doctoral experience in veterinary diagnostic microbiology.
