Informatics Project Lead
Job Description
The Informatics Project Lead position will supervise a project to design, develop, and disseminate an online venom knowledge base, to build a cutting-edge online repository that collates venom data across taxa and integrates -omic, morphological, and functional datasets. This is a highly multidisciplinary project that requires strong communication skills to connect researchers of different backgrounds, including evolutionary biologists, chemists, neuroscientists, engineers, aquarists, artists and vendors.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
- Collects and coordinates venom datasets from sample taxa across tree of life, processes and analyzes data, interfaces with venom labs internationally to build an online VenomBase repository and other novel tools for advancing comparative analyses of venom data.
- Supervises graduate students, undergraduate students and research assistants.
- Coordinates projects, makes detailed plans to accomplish goals, and directs the integration of technical activities within the discussed timeframe.
- Presents and explains proposals, product overview, data flow, user feedback documentations, and findings to PI, internal and external teams, and collaborators.
- Recruits vendors, assigns, directs, and evaluates their work, and oversees the development and maintenance of staff competence.
- Analyzes technology, resource needs and demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects and identify risks for the timeline and budget.
- Confers with Dr. Holford and other team members to produce results based on the assigned research plans.
- Reviews and recommends or approves vendors and cost estimates within the budget.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: Master’s degree in biological sciences or related degree with 7 years of experience in the field.
Additional Qualifications and Skills: PhD preferred. A distinct combination of skills in computer science, design, prototyping, ideation, design software, analytical data analysis, fabrication, and project management will make the ideal candidate for this position. Works independently and part of a team to achieve results. Regularly uses own judgement and knows when to escalate issues to PI. Excellent oral and written communication. Experience mentoring and managing others is essential. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment. This position is a remote position.
Additional Information
Appointment End Date: This is a one-year term position from date of hire with the possibility of an extension.
Standard Hours/Schedule: 40 hours per week
