Instructor, Adult Education (Transition Program) - Adjunct
Job Description Summary
The Adult Education Instructor's responsibilities include providing instruction and advising to Adult Education learners. This person will report directly to the Adult Education's Director of Transition Programs and Student Retention. The Instructor is responsible for documentation of student attendance and progress using Moodle, NROC/EdReady and/or other online LMS systems, CASAS and TABE testing referrals, student follow-up, and other duties as needed for the Adult Education programs. Assignment may involve working with students with Intellectual or Development disabilities, and/or preparing students for either English TIER tests in NROC or Math TIER tests in EdReady, High School Equivalency tests such as GED, HiSET or TASC, as well as for transition to post-secondary education and employment. Some assignments may involve helping English Language Learners acquire the vocabulary and language skills necessary to succeed in a particular career training program, such as Furniture Sewing, Carpentry, etc.
Duties/Functions:
- Provide classroom and/or online instruction to students including maintaining student attendance records, and monitoring progress and retention. Determine needs of individual students in the program. Create and utilize engaging lesson plans aligned to the NC Adult Education Content Standards. Serve as a substitute instructor as needed to provide instructional coverage in the absence of regular instructor.
- Supervise and advise students regarding attendance, educational and occupational goals and individual plans for progress. Manage classroom behavior and uphold student code of conduct.
- Integrate contextualized career preparation and CASAS or TABE preparation into daily lesson and classroom activities.
- Ensure students are referred to post-testing as needed for accurate reporting and documentation to track and measure student progress. Assist in the review and evaluation of the accuracy and appropriateness of student data, outcomes, goals, etc., and report discrepancies or concerns to the program director. Assist in the review of class attendance rosters and other supporting documents to ensure that class records are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate and model the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork. Participate in local, regional and state professional development initiatives to improve knowledge and skill base.
- Recruit students for program expansion. Work with community partners to ensure adequate enrollment.
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
Education Preferred:
Master's degree in Adult Education or related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
