Our Program and Who We Are Looking For

Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking a full-time instructor of Anatomy and Physiology to join the faculty of the Biology Department. The successful candidate will support and encourage student interest and academic excellence in biology and allied health programs by providing high quality and culturally responsive instruction and helping to develop innovative curricula and programs. Teaching assignments will be focused at the Cascade and Southeast campuses based on program need, with a variety of responsibilities to support the Biology department college-wide. The teaching load for this position is anticipated to be primarily on-campus, but may include some teaching or work in other modalities.

PCC serves nearly 60,000 full and part-time students across a large and diverse service area, with four campuses and multiple education centers. This position will be split between PCC's Cascade Campus in North Portland and Southeast Campus in outer Southeast Portland's vibrant Jade District. These are two of the campuses and centers that support PCC's dedication to equity, accessibility, and inclusion, by successfully reaching a diverse student body that reflects Portland's many distinct neighborhoods and serving as key resources for educating and training local residents.

Success Criteria

These qualifications, skills, and abilities are critical for success in this position. Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications. Please be sure to address the Success Criteria below in your cover letter.

  • Demonstrates readiness and eagerness to teach 100- and/or 200- level Anatomy and Physiology lecture and lab classes, as well as Biology 112 Cell Biology for Health Occupations, which serves as a prerequisite course for 200-level Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology.
  • Demonstrates experience and/or readiness in collaboratively developing, implementing, and refining culturally responsive curricula and practices to support equitable student success across a wide range of student experiences; language diversity; socioeconomic diversity; and cultural, ethnic, racial, and gender identities.
  • Demonstrates ability and enthusiasm to work collaboratively to coordinate and build community with other full-time and part-time faculty in the Biology Department. Responsibilities may include coordinating course materials, working with the instructional support team, and providing additional support for faculty colleagues.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of how their cultural background influences their perceptions, values, and practices, as well as how it may influence student success and a sense of belonging in the classroom.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to lead by example and to work collaboratively with others to promote a culture where prejudice, discrimination, and racism are disrupted.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional development and continuous improvement toward supporting equitable student success across a variety of modalities.

Regarding Academic Credentials at PCC

These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees.

Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.

Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard. (for more information see

How We Determine Initial Salary Placement

Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 ($78,408) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Placement at a higher step may be possible based upon additional experience and internal equity. The highest step of the range is step 17, ($118,558) Please review the salary schedule here.
