The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking to fill an Instructor, Chemistry for Las Positas College in Livermore, California.

This position reports directly to the Division Dean.

Representative Duties:

  1. Ability and dedication to teach all levels of chemistry courses offered at Las Positas College (general, introductory, and allied health) including lectures and laboratories;
  2. Ability to teach Chemistry enthusiastically, including incorporating new discoveries, research, and ideas into classrooms and teaching laboratories;
  3. Ability to adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles and abilities.
  4. Commitment to collaborate in a timely fashion with laboratory technicians in the preparation of materials for courses;
  5. Ability to develop and update curriculum outlines for chemistry courses;
  6. Commitment to working successfully as a team with other faculty and classified professionals, in STEM and across the college and district;
  7. Ability to implement, have respect for, and maintain standards of safe laboratory practices with students in the classroom;
  8. Ability to contribute to the total operation of the Department, Division, and College;
  9. Ability to work with computer-based instruction and integrate computers and associated peripherals as teaching and learning aids in lecture and laboratory settings;
  10. Commitment to seek and support personal creativity and professional growth and demonstrate career objectives consistent with the mission of Las Positas College;
  11. Commitment to participate in campus professional activities, which may include, but are not limited to, development of curriculum and new and innovative instructional approaches, committee membership, staff meetings, and community outreach;
  12. Participate in recruitment and articulation activities;
  13. Teach early morning, late afternoon, evening, weekend, and/or off campus classes when scheduled as part of the regular teaching assignment;
  14. Ability to interact successfully with students,’ faculty, administrators, staff, and community groups;
  15. Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written form;
  16. Evidence of sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Master’s in chemistry

OR Bachelor’s in chemistry or biochemistry AND Master’s in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology or geochemistry

OR the equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications:

Evidence of sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Teaching experience in Chemistry at the college level, with an emphasis on lower division courses.
  2. Ability to advise students regarding transfer options, degrees, and careers to chemistry.
  3. Commitment and ability to recruit and support under-represented groups including racial/ethnic minorities, persons with disabilities, socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals, and first-generation college students.

Job Work Schedule:

The positions are full-time, tenure track, beginning Fall 2026. Employment will begin on or about August 20, 2026.
