Position Summary
The Department of Chemistry, School of Arts and Sciences-Newark, Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), is seeking instructors for Summer 2026 to teach chemistry surveys, recitations, laboratories, or upper-level courses focused on specific themes or topics. The successful candidate will cover the full range of duties associated with teaching, including, but not limited to, preparing course material; creating and posting a course syllabus; presenting material during the assigned course times; holding office hours and providing appropriate out-of-class time for students; responding to student e-mails; conducting and grading assessments of students through assignments, exams, and other means, in a timely manner; and submitting final grades. Course appointments may require instruction during the day, in the evenings, on weekends, off-campus, online, hybrid, remotely, or any combination of these, based on the academic needs of the department/unit.

Salary Details
A minimum of $2,777 per credit
The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. We also take into consideration market benchmarks, if and when appropriate, and internal equity to ensure fair compensation relative to the university’s broader compensation structure. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree, Ph.D., or other terminal degree strongly preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must
- Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level is highly desired
