Instructor in Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Praxis

The Faculty of Education (Access Education) at the University of Winnipeg invites applications for a full-time probationary faculty position in Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Praxis at the rank of Instructor. This position is designated for Indigenous persons only.

The Faculty of Education offers a five-year integrated Bachelor of Education (BEd) program, a two-year after-degree BEd program, Access (teacher) Education programs, a Bachelor of Arts in Developmental Studies, a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Education (PBDE) for in-service teachers, and a graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy.

The successful candidate will possess, at minimum, a Master’s degree in Education (or a related field). Candidates must possess (or be eligible to hold) a valid teaching certificate and have familiarity with the Manitoba curriculum. Experience in one or more of the following areas is required: K–12 classroom settings (regular or alternative), mentoring pre-service and in-service teachers, working with adult learners in educational or post-secondary environments, and supporting students with diverse learning needs. Curricular teaching areas are open; however, we have particular need for expertise in early-to-middle years science, English language arts, and social studies taught through reconciliation by incorporating Indigenous knowledge systems and processes with a decolonial perspective. In addition to evidence of exemplary teaching and effectiveness, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate collegiality and contribute meaningfully to program development, faculty initiatives, university governance, and community engagement.

A strong foundation in pedagogy is essential including knowledge of direct and indirect instructional methods, inquiry-based learning, assessment practices, classroom management, and current research on pedagogical innovation in education. The ideal candidate will have experience in some of the following areas: universal design for learning; global competencies; Indigenous ways of knowing, languages and cultures; curriculum theory and curricular reform; familiarity working with diverse learners including students with disabilities; and culturally responsive, proactive, and preventative approaches to supporting students and their families. Interdisciplinarity is welcome.

We invite applicants who bring the skills, knowledge, and dispositions to support the development of professional educational standards, promote developmentally appropriate practices, and demonstrate a strong commitment to preservice teacher preparation.

Subject to budgetary approval, the appointment will take effect on January 5, 2026, or as soon as possible afterwards. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants are requested to submit a complete application that will include (all documents in PDF): a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, names and contact details of three references. In the later stages of the selection process, additional steps supporting the verification of Indigenous identity will occur for individuals who are invited to an interview with the selection committee.

Enquiries about the position may be addressed to Dr. Laurie-Ann Hellsten, Dean of the Faculty of Education, at l.hellsten@uwinnipeg.ca.

Applications Due: October 24, 2025. Consideration of applications will continue until such time as the position is filled. Only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.

The University of Winnipeg is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and recognizes that a diverse staff and faculty benefits and enriches the work, learning and research environments, and is essential to academic and institutional excellence. In accordance with the University of Winnipeg Employment Equity and Diversity Policy and section 11 of The Human Rights Code, this is a designated search for Indigenous scholars. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
