Summary

The position of Instructor requires an individual who can provide excellence in teaching, interested in both their students and their subjects. They must be committed to excellence in teaching. The Instructor should have a broad understanding of appropriate academic programs and potential future directions; be flexible, visionary, creative, and energetic; and want students to excel. Attention to duty and a desire for self-improvement are expected traits of Trine University Faculty members.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include instructing aerospace, aeronautical and mechanical engineering courses (e.g. Applied Aero, Aero Lab, Gas Turbines, Rocket Propulsion, Aircraft Stability and Controls, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics), advising students regarding academic issues, working with the Indiana Space Grant Consortium, serving the department, school, and university in the form of committee work and as needed, and engaging in ongoing professional development activities. These ongoing activities might include engagement in Engineering Education Research (ASEE), or work on applied research with undergraduate students or industry-supported research in collaboration with Innovation 1, Trine University’s technological outreach center.

Additional duties and responsibilities include:

  • Teach the standard faculty load of twelve (12) semester hours per semester or twenty-four (24) semester hours per academic year.
  • Post and maintain a regular schedule of at least one office hour per week for each credit hour of instruction.
  • Provide instruction (teach class) for the length of time listed in the official schedule.
  • Prepare and grade a midterm and a final exam or project for each course.
  • Provide each student with a course syllabus.
  • Submit absentee and academic deficiency information to Academic Support Services via Trine’s We Care early alert system.
  • Assist students experiencing academic difficulties and deficiencies.
  • Advise prospective and current students regarding course scheduling and curriculum requirements.
  • Providing mentoring and career guidance to students.
  • Participate in developing or implementing the department's strategic plan, as requested by the department chair.
  • Assist the department chair with scheduling and resource allocation issues, curriculum and laboratory development, and the collection, analysis, and reporting of assessment data.
  • Perform additional duties and complete assignments as prescribed by the respective department chair, school dean, and vice president for academic affairs.

Required Education

The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a closely related field by the contract start date. A candidate with an earned doctoral degree is preferred.

Salary

Rank and salary will be based on qualifications.
