Instructor - Molecular & Cellular Pathology

The Department of Pathology, Heersink School of Medicine, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is inviting applications from qualified candidates at the rank of Research Instructor (non-tenure earning) to strengthen our research programs in the areas of cardiovascular disease and reductive stress with a focus on proteotoxicity mechanisms.

Driven by an intensely collaborative and entrepreneurial character, UAB is one of the leading economic engines of the State. UAB is Alabama’s largest employer with more than 23,000 employees with total research expenditures exceeding $750 million in 2026.

The Department of Pathology with >90 full time faculty, including >35 research intensive faculty, has a major commitment to clinical care, research and education ranking in the top 12 for Pathology Departments in 2025 in the US, by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. Research within the department focuses on understanding the molecular basis underlying a wide range of diverse disease processes, identifying new therapeutic targets, and developing new treatments for patients.

Candidates must have an M.D. and/or Ph.D. in relevant disciplines. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated record of originality and productivity in research and scholarly activity including demonstration of competitiveness for significant extramural funding. Candidates should also have an interest in graduate and/or medical education.
