Position Summary

The Department of Psychology at York College of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, Instructor of Behavioral Sciences. This role is dedicated to teaching, advising, and supporting the academic and administrative functions of the interdisciplinary Behavioral Sciences major. The successful candidate will join a dynamic department committed to student success, professional development, and community engagement. They will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in the Behavioral Sciences major, which may include classes in human services and introductory courses in psychology and/or sociology, as they prepare students for careers that make a positive impact in communities and support social change. They may also have the opportunity to teach courses within the general education curriculum and/or their area of specialization based on curricular needs. In addition to their instructional responsibilities, this individual will be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate students majoring in Behavioral Sciences and engage in service at the departmental and institutional levels.

Essential Functions

  • Teaching and Instruction
  • Develop and deliver high-quality instruction in undergraduate behavioral sciences courses – such as Career Development and Exploration, Program Design and Evaluation, and Senior Capstone – as well as introductory courses in psychology, sociology, or related fields.
  • Prepare course materials, including syllabi, assignments, assessments, and multimedia resources, aligned with pedagogical best practices and department and institutional learning outcomes.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours to support student learning.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work and maintain accurate student records and grades.
  • Foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment that supports student success and respects diverse perspectives.
  • Advising and Student Support
  • Advise and mentor students in the behavioral sciences major and related academic or career pathways.
  • Support students’ academic, professional, and personal development.
  • Departmental Service and Administrative Responsibilities
  • Participate in departmental, school, and college committees and meetings.
  • Contribute to program development and strategic planning as needed.
  • Collaborate with department colleagues to assess, revise, and enhance the curriculum.
  • Participate in departmental assessment of student learning outcomes and program evaluation.
  • Support the Department Chair of Psychology in the coordination of the Behavior Sciences major.
  • Participate in recruitment (externally and internally), retention, and outreach efforts.

Experience and Education Required

The candidate must have an earned Master’s or Doctoral degree in Behavioral Sciences, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Social Work or a related field.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in undergraduate teaching in behavioral sciences or related disciplines.
  • Experience advising, mentoring, or supporting college students in academic, career, or professional development contexts.
  • Graduate-level training in the teaching.
  • Proven ability or strong interest in developing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations, service providers, or other experiential learning sites.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Competence with relevant educational technology (e.g., LMS platforms, digital collaboration tools, student tracking systems).
