About This Role
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking two Tenure-track, English as a Second Language Instructors. The instructor is responsible for guiding undergraduate students towards English language proficiency.
Summary of Duties
Under the supervision of the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Instructor of ESL is responsible for teaching 15 credits per semester of day, evening, and weekend classes in ESL. The Instructor will participate in School activities such as curriculum development and academic advisement; and contribute to the College community through committee work and other activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Use a multitude of strategies to create a learning environment that fully embraces and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom.
- Utilize Immersive Telepresence Video (ITV) and other instructional media which contribute to effective teaching.
- Advise and mentor students in support of the College’s mission.
- Provide effective feedback on student assignments.
- Assist in course and program assessment.
- Integrate Open Educational Resources (OER), computer-assisted instruction, laboratories and library/learning resources into classroom instruction.
Qualifications
- Minimum of Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL), Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition (SLA), Bilingual Education, Urban Education (specialization in ESL) or a closely related field.
- Minimum of two years of college-level teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with a culturally diverse population.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in a related discipline
- Extensive experience teaching in high-needs EAP contexts
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Arabic or Spanish
