Description

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Neurosurgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Instructor position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of lipid biology and tumor metabolism with a focus in developing novel molecular tools as well as methodologies, especially mass spectrometry based, to probe tumor models for new clinical biomarkers and therapeutic targets. The candidate should have knowledge of FDA protocols to develop translational research, as well as an ability to establish and maintain internal and external collaborations. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. The successful applicant must have at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience.

Responsibilities may include undertaking both collaborative and independent research in the field of pediatric brain tumors, utilizing state-of-the-art “big data” to generate hypothesis driven questions to be addressed utilizing molecular tools; orchestrating efforts related to NIH-funded grants in coordination with local, national, and international collaborators, facilitating the seamless execution of research projects; and authoring and compiling grant proposals, comprehensive reports, and scholarly manuscripts, while simultaneously augmenting our research endeavors in the field of brain tumor metabolism and epigenetics.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to develop skills in applying radiation oncology to tumor metabolism characterization, and to write scientific grants to federal and non-federal institutions to sponsor their research objectives.
