As the University’s chief academic officer, the Interim Provost will champion an innovative and collaborative academic enterprise that advances La Verne’s mission of providing a distinctive, relevant, and transformative educational experience for a diverse community of traditional undergraduate, adult and graduate learners. Working in close partnership with the President, fellow cabinet members, academic deans, and the University’s dedicated faculty, staff, students, alumni, and trustees, the Interim Provost will inspire academic innovation, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, and foster a culture of excellence that prepares graduates to lead lives of purpose and service.

Founded in 1891, the University of La Verne is composed of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Collegeof Business, the LaFetra College of Education, the College of Health and Community Well-Being, and the College of Law and Public Service, several regional campuses across Southern California, and robust onlineofferings. Scholastic opportunities abound, thanks to more than 60 undergraduate programs, more than 20 master’s degrees, six doctorates, and over 20 credential and certificate programs.

Across the five colleges, ULV’s approximately 4,700 traditional-age and adult learners make the federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution one of the most diverse universities in the nation. Nearly half of the traditional undergraduates are first-generation students – the first in their immediate families to attend College. More than 70 percent of University of La Verne students receive some form of financial aid. University of La Verne employs more than 200 full-time professors and has a 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio. The average class size is 16 students.

In addition to the main campus, University of La Verne also has regional campuses in Bakersfield, Santa Clarita, and Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC). Classes at regional campuses are accelerated and flexible, with most courses meeting in the evenings and on weekends. Many programs are also offered online, giving adult learners even more options to earn a degree while still working.

The University of La Verne prides itself on being reflective of the diversity of Southern California. Approximately 80 percent of the University’s nearly 4,700 students come from diverse backgrounds, and the U.S. Department of Education has designated the University as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). With more than 85,000 alumni, the University fulfills a critical community function in educating students from underserved populations, many of whom are the first generation in their family to attend College.

Reporting directly to the President, the Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will provide leadership across a broad range of offices and functions at the University. The Interim Provost provides overall academic leadership, administrative support, and coordination for academic affairs across the University. They will lead the University’s academic mission through transparent communication and collective decision-making. The Interim Provost is responsible for providing a cohesive and distinctive student experience, including setting academic priorities and overseeing budgeting. In support of the University of La Verne’s overall mission, the Interim Provost will engage internal and external stakeholders and, together with senior leadership, guide faculty and staff toward a unified direction.

The Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will have the opportunity to advance data-informed academic strategic planning and institutional accountability, strengthen the infrastructure and effectiveness of the Provost’s Office, provide steady leadership through institutional change, and foster leadership alignment and collaborative execution.
