Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Landscape Services Unit is part of the Physical Plant Department, Business Affairs Division. The unit provides support with maintenance, development and operation of all University grounds, performs skilled and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance and upkeep of landscape, roads, and parking areas.
Brief Summary of Work for this Position: The Irrigation Specialist manages the university's irrigation systems and ensures the proficient and effective operation of these systems.
Responsibilities include:
- Provides direction for all repairs for campus irrigation systems
- General maintenance of systems
- Design and installation of new, in-house irrigation systems
- Management, coordination and inspection of contracted installations
- Conducting reviews of outside irrigation designers and delivering support to general grounds maintenance
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Requires North Carolina Pesticide License and North Carolina Commercial Driver's License.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Horticulture knowledge specific to southeastern North Carolina.
- Experience with installation and troubleshooting traditional and two-wire irrigation systems.
- NC Irrigation Contractors License preferred; or Carolina Irrigation Association Certified Irrigation Technician preferred.
Required Certifications or Licensures: Valid NC Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 30 days.
FTE: 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week)
Months Per Year: 12 Months
Work Days: Monday - Friday
Work Hours: 6:00am - 2:30pm
