"Isaac Newton/College Junior Research Fellowship 2026"

Robinson College invites applications for election to an Isaac Newton/College Junior Research Fellowship, which is generously funded by the Isaac Newton Trust, starting on 1 October 2026, lasting for three years, until 30 September 2029. The Fellowship is open to graduates working in Economics; Education; Geography; Land Economy; Law; Politics and International Studies; Social Anthropology and Sociology. The holder of the Isaac Newton/College Junior Research Fellowship is expected to pursue full-time research based in Cambridge.

The Fellowship is open to graduates of any university; there is no age limit, but the Fellowship is designed to support those who are at an early stage in their academic careers, and it will normally be awarded to a candidate who has recently completed a PhD degree (or equivalent). Candidates are expected to have a PhD (or equivalent) by the commencement of the Fellowship on 1 October 2026.

The stipend of a Research Fellow is at point 31 on the academic single spine (£28,778). The post is pensionable within USS. Research Fellows are entitled to heavily subsidised accommodation in College, subject to availability. Candidates are advised to check their eligibility to work in the UK. Should a visa be required, the College would support candidates in obtaining a Global Talent Visa. This position is not eligible for a Skilled Worker Visa. A Research Fellow becomes a member of the Governing Body of Robinson College and will be expected to contribute to the life of the College’s academic community.

Churchill College, Clare College, Murray Edwards College, Robinson College and Trinity Hall operate a Joint Application Scheme for Early Career Research Fellowships.

Applications will be considered by all Colleges offering Fellowships in the relevant subject. A total of eight Fellowships are offered but candidates are advised that competition is likely to be intense; last year over 1300 applications were received.
