Overview

Manages, mentors, and leads a team to ensure service level agreements are met for the Office of Research Administration (ORA), Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), and Conflict of Interest Office (COI). Aligns IT team with functional and strategic priorities and ensures transparency of current and future priorities to functional leaders and the team. Ensures effective and accurate execution of strategic initiatives set by IT leadership and business leads. Collaborates with business leads, IT partners, peers, and third-party providers to identify priorities, meet objectives, reduce risk, and maintain efficiencies. Adheres to best practices and industry standards for the software development life cycle (SDLC). Engages proactively and regularly with business leads and the Yale community to ensure customer satisfaction. Acts with fiduciary responsibility and integrity for the University. Develops short, mid, and long-term strategic solutions to resolve system business challenges and defects in collaboration with ORA. Maintains productive relationships with administrative offices, acts as liaison, and ensures clear communication and prioritization of issues with ORA, ITS, and software vendors. Monitors application efficiency and effectiveness, initiates improvements, and manages vendor relationships for support, strategy, maintenance, and upgrades. Identifies new opportunities for vendor engagement, documents, negotiates agreements, and participates in vendor activities such as steering committees and national conferences. Implements technical support and performance improvements to minimize compliance risk related to sponsored research activities. Defines and operationalizes quality assurance and testing procedures, ensuring high-quality solutions and adherence to application patches and infrastructure changes. Develops and manages application access and security standards, service metrics, and fosters a culture of customer service and professionalism. Designs, develops, and enhances a support structure for faculty, business offices, ORA, and establishes customer service standards and support documentation.

Required Skills and Abilities

  4. Proven ability to manage multiple/complex projects, meeting deadlines and budget.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated experience with InfoEd, PowerBI and SQL.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Oversees and manages in the strategic planning process; disseminates strategic goals to the team and ensures goals are implemented; develops and establishes best practices.
  2. Manages, hires, develops existing as well as new staff; assists in the workforce staffing plans.
  3. Responsible for making moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems, and functional output of the department or work/objectives of a team/s.
  4. Participate in the development of communication plans for administrative, operational, or technical changes; determine timeline for the dissemination of communications and the support and resource requirements associated with each change.
  5. Analyzes and resolves problems through drawing from prior experiences. Interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts, resource management in defined areas).
  6. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree and eight years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
