Description

Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for an IT Support Technician 2 position for the WWCC Correction Education program located at the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC) in Connell, Washington.

This position is filled to fulfill a contract awarded to Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (WSBCTC) to operate a correctional education program at CRCC in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections.

General Responsibilities

In line with the mission and goals of Walla Walla Community College, this position will be responsible for encouraging students to continue life-long learning in preparing students for the 21st-century work. The IT Support Technician 2 will ensure that student laptops are updated, inventoried, and reviewed on a regular basis, create network and software accounts for students and teachers and provide primary support to individuals and small work groups. Independently completes a variety of routine technical IT paraprofessional assignments. The IT Support Technician 2 will work with students, program staff and various stakeholders in the interest of the corrections education program.

Essential Functions

Major Duty: Desktop, laptop, software and network IT support work.

Tasks include:

  • Provides primary IT support to students and faculty.
  • Ensures software meets end user needs. Installs, updates and configures software. Trains end users on basic use of software.
  • Provides technical training to end users.
  • Assist IT professionals in acquiring, installing, repairing and retiring computer equipment, peripherals and software.
  • Proactively monitors, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and escalates application, network, and server related issues per established procedures and service levels.
  • Assists in providing hardware and application support for the day-to-day operations.
  • Serves as point of contact for upgrades or changes and works with IT professionals to evaluate potential impacts.
  • Support operations and program in service of GED testing, GED ready tests, CASA, and other Basic Skills programs.
  • Assists IT professionals in installing cabling systems and network interface cards, hubs, uninterruptible power supply backups and switches.
  • Supports faculty in managing offline and online Canvas course development, problem-solving, and training.
  • Support the OSN technology and its users: training on and maintenance of the student network.
  • Provides technical support on integrating and updating course software into student Canvas, PCs, and laptops with a focus on troubleshooting, security, and reconfiguration.
  • Manages staff and student user system access by creating and updating accounts and user groups, assigning network rights and access to systems (Canvas and other educational programs), applications and equipment.
  • Communicates with WWCC staff and students on OSN, Canvas, and laptop processes, to support them in its use.
  • Resets passwords for logins and other applications.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, coordinate, plan, document, and maintain all student laptops.
  • Credential laptops, and then re-image laptops with latest version and assign to new/returning student. Create student laptop logons and maintain logon/password tracker.
  • When laptops are lost, work with DOC staff to try to locate lost item, if not found follow infraction process. Assist with investigations and document misuse of laptops.
  • Continuously work with DOC staff to ensure that laptops are accounted for by emailing and contacting DOC property when laptops are issued, retrieved or swapped.
  • Ensure security protocols are followed per DOC and WWCC policies. Practices security for highly classified laptop processes, protocols, and passwords. Models best practices and trains others on security for laptops and classroom desktops.
  • Disable accounts when needed for security issues / when security protocols are not followed.
  • Collaborate with DOC IT, SBCTC IT & WWCC IT as needed for security breaches or other issues that arise.
  • Prioritize assigned work with laptops, logins, documentation, user agreements.
  • Participate in the development of standards and processes with DOC/WWCC. Share processes with others so they understand how best to receive support.
  • Work with DOC IT with IT Tasks such as, installing software on laptops/desktops; swapping hardware i.e. desktops/laptops/monitors/mice/keyboards.
  • Track and troubleshoot uncommon user issues.
  • Inspect student laptops on a quarterly basis. Track and report for SBCTC compliance.
  • Record keeping and inventorying WWCC tech and property utilized in our educational spaces valued at $500,000. Follow legally required data tracking.
  • Maintain accurate student laptop inventory in the Shared Drive tracking sheet.
  • Maintain accurate student laptop inventory in the SBCTC SharePoint inventory.
  • Update OMNI laptop assignments under Programs.
  • Work with DOC Property office to track laptops under students' property matrix.

Required Qualifications

Any combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the applicant with the knowledge and skills to perform the job may be considered by the college.

  • Associates degree or two (2) years of equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Corrections work experience
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish

Conditions/Terms of Employment

This classified position is in a bargaining unit for which WPEA Higher Ed is the exclusive representative.

Standard business hours are 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a half-hour lunch break. Incumbent may be expected to occasionally adjust the work schedule to meet business needs. Minimal travel may be required for occasional training.

This position is located inside the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center, an adult male prison and interacts daily with WWCC faculty, instructors, counselors, office co-workers, supervisors, DOC personnel and students (incarcerated individuals).
