JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER (3 POSITIONS)

Position Summary:
Performs skilled plumbing work in the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair, of plumbing systems and related fixtures in accordance with applicable codes, safety standards, and industry best practices. This work involves diagnosing issues, interpreting blueprints, selecting appropriate materials, and ensuring proper functioning of water supply and waste disposal. This position may also coordinate with contractors or other trades and is responsible for ensuring high-quality workmanship, customer service, and compliance with local and state plumbing regulations.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Possession of a State of Michigan Journeyman Plumbing License.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to become an approved driver under the university’s vehicle policy.
- Ability to obtain ASSE Backflow Prevention Certification within 12 months of hire.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to provide a high level of service excellence to campus customers.
- Ability to work from blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
- Ability to effectively use technology to access e-mail and the internet.
- Demonstrated ability to follow and/or interpret oral or written directions.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
- Ability to be on-call.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds.
- Ability to safely use a ladder.

Preferred Qualifications:
Duties & Responsibilities:
Repairs, replaces, maintains, and installs the following:
- Fixtures, faucets, and fixture fittings
- Water heaters
- Water supply and distribution lines
- Sanitary drainage
- Indirect/special waste
- Plumbing vents
- Traps, interceptors, and separators
- Storm drainage systems
- Special piping and storage systems
- Potable/non-potable water systems
- Subsurface gray water
Maintains and repairs swimming, rehabilitation, and hydrotherapy pool systems.
Plans work and obtains necessary materials, equipment, and supplies.
Operates all required tools and equipment including but not limited to power equipment and hand tools.
Conducts preventive maintenance.
Troubleshoots, develops, and implements solutions.
Conducts miss dig utility location services.
Works effectively with other skill trades.
Keeps necessary records as required.
Requests supplies and equipment as necessary.
Performs other duties related to the job classification as assigned.
