Join us! Then the job of Junior Lecturer MSc Information Studies at the University of Amsterdam may be perfect for you. We are looking for a junior lecturer who will support group classes (seminars and computer lab sessions), evaluate assignments, supervise teaching assistants (TAs) and coach students during their thesis projects. The Master Information Sciences programme consists of two tracks (Information Systems and Data Science) and is part of the Graduate School of Informatics of the Faculty of Science.

This is what you are going to do: As a junior lecturer, you will help in the preparation and organisation of seminars, computer labs, and projects for a range of courses in our programme. This will be done in consultation with the course coordinators who are responsible for the theoretical and course pedagogical implementation of a course. The emphasis of the junior lecturer position is on supporting the practical matters of the education within our Master’s programme and coaching students who are working on their thesis projects. The tasks of a junior lecturer consist of:

  • preparing and adapting course material for project and practical groups;
  • coaching and instructing teaching assistants (TAs);
  • supervising project and practical groups;
  • providing feedback on weekly assignments;
  • supporting the Master thesis process (organisation as well as supervision of academic processes);
  • organizing extracurricular activities, such as ad-hoc workshops.

This is what we ask of you: A Master of Science degree (or recently obtained PhD degree) in computer science, artificial intelligence, information science, or a related discipline; good didactical and organisational skills; an excellent command of English (C1); Non-native Dutch speakers must be willing to obtain B2 level proficiency in the Dutch language; a proactive and flexible attitude; the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

This is what we offer: We offer an employment contract for 4 years (with a 2 month probation period) for 38 hours per week, preferably starting on November 1, 2025. The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience, ranges between € 3.546 to € 5.538 (scale 10). This is exclusive a 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% year-end allowance. The UFO-profile Docent 4 is applicable. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Universities of the Netherlands is applicable. The Faculty of Science offers you a four-year contract, which includes 0.1 FTE dedicated to training and development. This combination of working as a junior lecturer while following training is called the Lecturer Development Programme (Docent Ontwikkel Programma, DOP). The purpose of the DOP is to optimise your position on the job market (employability and career opportunities) once your temporary employment comes to an end. During the course of your four-year contract, you will follow training modules together with other junior lecturers; this will include the opportunity to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO). Together with your supervisor, you will draw up a Personal Development Plan (Persoonlijk Ontwikkelplan, POP) detailing the specifics of your customised programme. NB: It is not possible to offer this contract to candidates who are currently, or in the past 6 months, employed at the University of Amsterdam.
