Junior System Administrator
Job Summary
The Junior System Administrator will be responsible for supporting and administering desktop systems and Windows servers. This role is essential for providing 2nd and 3rd level support, ensuring the integrity and performance of our IT infrastructure as well as maintaining a high standard of technical support for both internal clients and vendors at Dumbarton Oaks.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and upgrade computer hardware and software.
- Provide 2nd and 3rd level support to the Help Desk, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues for users.
- Monitor and maintain computer backups to prevent data corruption.
- Remove malware and other security threats, ensuring system security and integrity.
- Create and manage user accounts and system permissions.
- Train and support users on best IT practices and system usage.
- Oversee the automated management of an inventory of over 1,000 devices, including asset management and Windows image creation.
- Manage software and OS rollout, patch management, and enterprise antivirus systems.
- Develop and implement a mobile device management strategy.
- Evaluate and test new computer models for deployment.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and recommend system improvements.
- Develop, review and document for the purposes of knowledgebase development.
- Collaborate closely with other members of the technology department to support all end users effectively.
- Collaborate with approved vendors to manage delivery of managed support services.
- Assist with various IT projects as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Ability to push, lift, and carry up to 35 pounds regularly.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- High school graduate with three years of experience.
- Minimum two years of experience providing customer service.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Experience in setting up, configuring, tuning, and troubleshooting servers.
- Experience in upgrading and patching system hardware and software.
- Familiarity with cloud concepts (both public and private), cloud servers, storage, and networking systems, particularly AWS or similar platforms.
- Working knowledge of technologies including wireless networking, VoIP, MS server, file & print services, switching, routing, firewalls, Windows 10/11, Mac OS, imaging and automated deployment, conference room equipment, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN connectivity (e.g., Zscaler), Active Directory, account provisioning, and core configuration.
- Experience with service desk ticketing systems.
- Experience with ITIL.
- Knowledge of maintenance and support of IT infrastructure systems within an enterprise environment.
- Cybersecurity certification is highly preferred.

- Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week

- Work Format Details: This is a position that is based at a Harvard campus location with some remote work options available. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
