The Georgetown Law Institute for Technology Law & Policy (the Tech Institute) seeks a Justice Fellow to join our team for a year-long fellowship. The fellow will work under the supervision of the Institute's Executive Director and Academic Program Director, in partnership with the Institute's faculty, fellows, and staff.

The Tech Institute is a hub for policymakers, academics, advocates, and technologists to study and discuss how to center humans and the social good, using technology as a tool. Located just steps from the U.S. Capitol, the Tech Institute's mission is to close the gaps between law, policy, and technology and to advance justice, inclusion, and accountability at this critical intersection. We train the next generation of lawyers and lawmakers with deep expertise in technology law and policy and provide non-partisan insights to policymakers on issues relating to new and emerging technologies. With the leading academic program for law and technology in the U.S., we also foster interdisciplinary approaches to solving complex technology law and policy problems. In addition, the Tech Institute identifies and creates opportunities for technology to improve access to justice.

The Justice Fellow will support various short-term and long-term research projects, initiatives, and events at the intersection of technology, law, and public policy, on topics including:

• Artificial intelligence in relation to intellectual property, algorithmic bias, and the practice of law
• Internet policy and competition
• Accountable domestic and global tech governance (including privacy, content moderation, and surveillance)
• Inclusive intellectual property and social justice
• Patents and public health
• Technology as a tool to promote access to justice and voting rights
• Digital equity and tech workforce diversity
• Other topics as they arise

Responsibilities will include conducting legal and policy research, writing research memoranda, contributing to written reports and the Institute website, coordinating participation in coalitions, creating resources and programming to support initiatives and thought leadership, and planning and helping manage the Tech Institute's active calendar of public events.

The successful candidate will have a strong academic record and excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills. We prefer, but do not require, a demonstrated interest and/or experience in policy work, technology law, or civil rights.

The research activities described above will be conducted in partnership with the Tech Institute's resident and non-resident fellows, many of whom are senior leaders and former government officials with deep experience in technology policy. Fellows will be asked to draft at least two short papers on current issues within the field of technology law and policy, with Institute staff providing feedback and assisting with the process of seeking publication outlets according to the fellow's interests.

Work Interactions: The Fellow reports directly to the Executive Director of the Tech Institute. The Fellow will have interaction with students, faculty, and support offices on the Law Center's campus, in addition to external partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications: This fellowship is open to Georgetown Law JD graduates of the class of 2024. The successful candidate will have a strong academic record and excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills. We prefer, but do not require, a demonstrated interest and/or experience in policy work, technology law, or civil rights. We welcome applicants with diverse, non-tech interests who want to gain a deeper understanding of how technology is affecting different facets of society.
