About our team | Mō te tīma

The department of Māori Indigenous Health Innovation (MIHI) undertakes research, teaching and community service in response to supporting Māori health advancement. We are seeking a Kaitohutohu Rangahau Hauora Māori to join our whānau.

This programme offers researchers the opportunity to build confidence in applying principles of Māori Health Advancement to their research and/or research projects by engaging in a process that supports researcher development, research applications and ultimately research that engages with Māori communities and supports Māori health advancement.

The role | Te mahi

This leadership role is dedicated to advancing Māori health research at the University of Otago, Christchurch (UOC).

As Kaitohutohu Rangahau Hauora Māori (Māori Health Research Advisor), you will support the development and implementation of strategies and process to increase the responsiveness of the Faculty of Medicine, Christchurch (UOC) research to the needs and aspirations of Māori and to actively promote developments in this area.

Key tasks of the role include:

  • Identifying and establishing relationships with key stakeholders and funding bodies
  • Identifying the aspirations of the Māori community in the areas of health research and communicate this back to the research community.
  • Identify opportunities to build Māori health research capacity at UOC, including potential funding opportunities.

Your skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

We are looking for a candidate who has excellent working knowledge of te reo me nga tikanga Māori, with familiarity of local national Māori organisations. You will be an excellent communicator both verbally and written with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain position and effective networks within both the Māori and non-Māori community.

In addition to the above, we are also seeking:

  • Initiative and the ability to work independently and to problem-solve.
  • The ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals and groups.
  • An understanding of health research practice and ethics and project management.
  • A tertiary qualification that reflects an understanding of academic research processes.

This is a permanent, part time (18.75 hours) position, located in Ōtautahi, Christchurch.

The appointment range for this role is $91,859 to $101,087. Top of range $110,317.
