Kavli Institute for Neuroscience Postdoctoral Award for Collaborative Excellence

The Kavli Institute for Neuroscience at the Yale School of Medicine is committed to fostering and supporting an inclusive neuroscience research community. Diversity is vital to achieving excellence and innovation in scientific research. The Kavli Postdoctoral Award for Collaborative Excellence seeks to support exceptional scholars who bring a diversity of perspectives and experiences to academic research. This Award will support up to two years of mentored research in the neurosciences at Yale University, including salary, benefits, and a research allowance. Awardees will join a nurturing community that promotes scientific excellence through mentorship, training, and professional development. The Kavli Institute supports all areas of neuroscience at Yale, from molecular, cellular, systems, computational, developmental, translational, and human neuroscience, with a special emphasis on cortical development, cortical function, visual science, cellular neurobiology, neurodegeneration, and repair.

Terms

The award will provide $70,000 for salary support, and standard postdoctoral employee benefits for up to two years. An additional $20,000 allowance can support relevant research and travel expenses, including up to $3,000 toward relocation.

  • Curriculum Vitae
    Please provide a current CV, including publications that are online, in print, pending, or deposited in public repositories such as bioRxiv.
  • Personal Statement (max one page)
    Please include a one-page max (arial 11, single-spaced) personal statement to address the following:
    • Research experience and major accomplishment(s).
    • Statement describing how you have helped or will help yourself or others overcome challenges to conducting neuroscience research.
    • Your future research goals.
  • Research Plan (max two pages)
    • A two-page research plan (arial 11, single-spaced), excluding references. An additional page with figures may be included.
  • Letters of Reference
    • The thesis advisor should provide a letter to address the quality and originality of the candidate’s research and their potential for a career in science.
    • One person familiar with the candidate should provide a letter speaking to the candidate’s research experience, qualifications, and aspirations.
  • Letter of Faculty Sponsorship (max two pages)
    • The sponsoring Yale faculty mentor should provide a letter of support to address the candidate’s qualifications and proposed research projects. The letter should discuss the candidate’s potential contributions to the mentor’s research program, how the mentor will foster the development and advancement of the candidate, and the mentor’s ability to support the candidate’s effort and research beyond the two-year award.
