Kirby Laing Chair of New Testament Exegesis

The department of Divinity at the University of Aberdeen seeks to appoint an exceptional scholar to the position of Kirby Laing Chair of New Testament Exegesis. This is a professorial position (Grade 9 on the University of Aberdeen scale; corresponding to spinal points 50–54 in the national scales), suited to a scholar who works in the area of New Testament Studies.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop impactful research in the field of New Testament Studies at the highest level, to teach in the discipline across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to supervise postgraduate research students. As a professorial position, the Chair will also be expected to exercise leadership in these areas within the New Testament sub-discipline, which presently includes a Lecturer in New Testament Studies and the Kirby Laing Postdoctoral Research Fellow. This is a research-active position, with the standard workload allocation of 40% dedicated to research, and the remaining workload associated with teaching, supervision and academic administration. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue external research funding and to attract and supervise PhD students, with support mechanisms in place to assist with this; they will also be expected to make a contribution to academic leadership and administration in the department and School. The Kirby Laing Postdoctoral Research Fellow provides some research support to the Chair.
