Description

The Department of Digital Arts (DDA) at Pratt Institute is seeking a detail-oriented Lab Manager to support the growing technology demands of the department. The successful applicant will join the department's IT team, reporting to the Technology Director.

About the Department of Digital Arts:

The Department of Digital Arts (DDA) has a 35-year history in the artistic application of innovative technologies, offering degrees in 2D Animation, 3D Animation, Art & Technology, and Game Arts. Our community of over 400 students, 60 faculty and 7 staff operate across 3 floors of Myrtle Hall. These facilities include over 300 computers, a well-equipped resource center, a greenscreen room, an audio recording studio, experimental animation studios, artist studios, and a spatial computing lab.

Examples of Duties

  • Support the core technological needs of the students, faculty, and staff, ensuring smooth running of classes and other departmental activities including responding to help tickets, deployment (hardware and software), and maintaining peripherals and specialist facilities;
  • In coordination with the Technology Director and Chair, help to plan upgrades, repairs and tech strategies for the department;
  • Plan and prepare technology requirements for special events such as workshops and end of year exhibitions/screenings - this includes oversight of DDA's screens and relationship with Pratt TV/Interactive Services;
  • Ensure the implementation of departmental policies and procedures regarding department facilities and equipment;
  • Manage and maintain, with oversight, the department's render farm;
  • Conduct IT development related to the department, especially around systems that are distinctive to department operations;
  • Liaise with and assist the Operations Manager on technical systems and resources, and lend backup support in this area when needed;
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with experience in IT support for both Apple and Windows computers.
  • Experience with specialist systems set-up, maintenance, research and development such as local admin servers, render farm, and software imaging/deployment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to track projects and report on progress.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of how-to set-up, troubleshoot, and integrate a diverse range of creative IT software and hardware.
  • Scripting/coding experience is a plus.
  • An ability to document and summarize processes into how-to manuals and/or videos (for appropriate projects) is highly desirable for this role.
