Salary Range: Up to $60,918 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary
Level I
The Lab Services Supervisor works to provide oversight and supervision of scientific teaching laboratories and related technical staff. This position plays a key role in ensuring a safe and effective learning environment by supervising technical staff and providing instructional and logistical support for laboratory classes.
Level II
The Lab Services Supervisor II provides responsible supervisory and technical skills for the distribution, oversight, and maintenance of supplies and equipment in departmental laboratories.
Core Responsibilities
Level I
- Sets up laboratory and ensures efficient operations of scientific teaching laboratories.
- Supervises technical staff who assist in laboratory preparation and maintenance, including partial supervision of laboratory instructors (TA's and lecturers).
- Assists in instructing students on the use of instrumentation.
- Orders chemicals and equipment for scientific teaching laboratories; maintains an up-to-date inventory of chemicals in the teaching laboratories and chemical stockroom.
- Orders, maintains, and performs minor repairs on teaching instrumentation.
- Manages the safe handling of chemicals and disposal of chemical and glass waste.
- Provides safety instruction for laboratory classes.
- Assists in planning and set up of the chemical section of stockrooms.
- Updates chemical and equipment inventories.
- Delivers safety instruction to students.
- Takes a proactive approach to assist co-workers in various tasks, to ensure safety.
- Performs work tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with work instructions.
- Proactively makes recommendations to improve safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Level II
- Supervises all aspects of the operations of scientific teaching laboratories for Master and Ph.D. level students while maintaining thorough knowledge of safety regulations, and departmental/university regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Prepares specifications and oversees laboratory set-up in classrooms and labs. Oversees classroom set up for lectures and demonstrations and ensures efficient operations of scientific teaching laboratories.
- Supervises technical staff that assists in laboratory preparation and maintenance, including supervision of laboratory instructors (TA's and lecturers).
- Supervises and assists in instructing MA and Ph.D students on the use of instrumentation.
- Recruits and trains lab technicians. Arranges lab technician work schedule.
- Orders chemicals and equipment for scientific teaching laboratories; maintains an up-to-date inventory of chemicals in the teaching laboratories and chemical stockroom.
- Supervises the construction, repair, and maintenance of all lab equipment.
- Supervises issuance of supplies and equipment. Orders, maintains, and performs minor repairs on teaching instrumentation.
- Oversees safe handling of chemicals and disposal of chemical and glass waste.
- Provides safety instruction for laboratory classes.
- Oversees planning and set up of the chemical section of stockrooms.
- Updates chemical and equipment inventories.
- Delivers safety instruction to students.
- Takes a proactive approach to assist co-workers in various tasks, to ensure safety.

Required Qualifications
Both levels
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Level I
- One (1) year of related work experience.
Level II
- Three (3) years of related work experience.

Physical Demands
Level I
- Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
Level II
- Must have the ability to perform physical labor in moving stocks and maintaining laboratory storeroom and teaching laboratories in a clean and orderly condition.
This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
