Job Summary

The Lab Services Supervisor II provides responsible supervisory and technical skills for the distribution, oversight, and maintenance of supplies and equipment in departmental laboratories.

Core Responsibilities

1. Supervises all aspects of the operations of scientific teaching laboratories for Master's and Ph.D. level students while maintaining thorough knowledge of safety regulations, departmental/university regulations, policies, and procedures.
2. Prepares specifications and oversees laboratory set-up in classrooms and labs. Oversees classroom setup for lectures and demonstrations and ensures efficient operations of scientific teaching laboratories.
3. Supervises technical staff that assists in laboratory preparation and maintenance, including supervision of laboratory instructors (TA's and lecturers).
4. Supervises and assists in instructing MA and Ph.D students on the use of instrumentation.
5. Recruits and trains lab technicians. Arranges lab technician's work schedule.
6. Orders chemicals and equipment for scientific teaching laboratories; maintains an up-to-date inventory of chemicals in the teaching laboratories and chemical stockroom.
7. Supervises the construction, repair, and maintenance of all lab equipment.
8. Supervises issuance of supplies and equipment. Orders, maintains, and performs minor repairs on teaching instrumentation.
9. Oversees safe handling of chemicals and disposal of chemical and glass waste.
10. Provides safety instruction for laboratory classes.
11. Oversees planning and setup of the chemical section of stockrooms.
12. Updates chemical and equipment inventories.
13. Delivers safety instruction to students.
14. Takes a proactive approach to assist co-workers in various tasks, to ensure safety.
15. Performs work tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with work instructions.
16. Proactively makes recommendations to improve safety.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
• Three (3) years of related work experience.
• This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
