Lab Technician
Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Lab Technician for the Daniels Lab in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience within the School of Arts and Sciences. The position will contribute to a cutting-edge research environment that is dedicated to excellence and innovation in the field of neurobiology.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Handles general lab upkeep and animal colony management, including support for ongoing animal studies, husbandry, and genotyping.
- Performs immunofluorescence and related FISH protocols, including sample preparation, staining, and analysis on both whole animal brain sections and primary cell cultures.
- Analyzes gene expression by qPCR, including experimental implementation, data generation, and analysis.
- Performs standard and repetitive physical, chemical, and biological tests on materials, substances, and/or living subjects.
- Prepares media, substances, solutions, and reagents and performs related duties. Manages cell culture and in vitro experiments with the above as needed.
- Provides routine technical support relative to scientific research work or projects of a laboratory and/or teaching program.
- Collects and completes basic preparation of samples and specimens.
- Performs standard and repetitive physical, chemical, and biological tests on materials, substances, and/or living subjects.
- Prepares media, substances, solutions, and reagents and performs related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- High school/vocational school education or equivalent with coursework completed in the relevant science area(s) and one year of research study experience. An equivalent amount of college-level study in an appropriate science curriculum may be substituted for the experience.

Equipment Utilized:
Confocal microscope, anesthesia inducer, flow cytometer, qPCR, regular biosafety and molecular biology equipment, and small tools as necessary.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical demands include standing for long periods of time and hands-on laboratory work like preparing samples and using imaging equipment. and the ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds. Regular workweek may include evening and/or weekend work.
Special Conditions:
Requires at least one year of experience in molecular biology, FISH, immunocytochemistry, and mouse husbandry. This is a grant funded position contingent upon the availability of funds to support it.
