About the role

You will be responsible for the preparation, operation, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and materials include setting up and dismantling experiments, managing inventories, ensuring safety protocols, troubleshooting equipment, and providing technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, set up and pack down laboratory and teaching spaces to support learning activities
  • Coordinate and organise resources for classes and practical sessions
  • Provide routine technical support, advice and basic equipment instruction
  • Assist with experiments, demonstrations and equipment setup
  • Perform routine maintenance of equipment and workspaces
  • Manage stock, including safe storage and handling of hazardous substances in line with regulations
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures
  • Conduct routine risk assessments; report and escalate issues as required
  • Monitor equipment loans, inspect items, and minimise loss or damage
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and databases (e.g. equipment, chemicals, hazardous materials)
  • Provide general administrative support and assist with lab readiness for events (e.g. Open Day)

Qualifications, skills & experience

Tertiary qualifications at Certificate IV or Diploma level with relevant work related experience, or completion of a post-trades certificate and extensive relevant laboratory experience and on the job training, or completion of a Certificate III with extensive relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

Proven Laboratory experience, including laboratory methods and techniques, including laboratory safety, handling hazardous materials.

Tertiary or higher education sector highly desirable.

Strong proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment operation, maintenance and troubleshooting

Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues to ensure continuous functionality

Sound knowledge of laboratory safety standards and compliance requirements

Adaptable and flexible in a dynamic laboratory environment

Accurate record-keeping and documentation skills with strong attention to detail

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant systems

Working knowledge of applicable regulations, legislation, policies and procedures
