Laboratory Manager - Digestive & Liver Diseases

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Laboratory Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a large, sophisticated research laboratory primarily funded by NIH grants. This role ensures the smooth functioning of the lab by providing oversight and support to technicians, postdoctoral fellows, students, research faculty, and other team members.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate daily laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with institutional and federal guidelines.
  • Manage and maintain a large mouse colony, including scheduling, organization, and documentation of experiments.
  • Supervise the use of core facilities and ensure proper training and adherence to protocols.
  • Develop and implement new laboratory techniques and maintain accurate research and IACUC protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, conduct regular inspections, and manage reporting requirements.
  • Oversee purchasing and inventory management for reagents, supplies, and equipment.
  • Monitor reagent utilization and schedule routine equipment maintenance.
  • Foster a structured, organized environment that supports efficient and collaborative research activities.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience
  • Strong background in research design and data analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of molecular biology, mouse husbandry, and genetics
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to write clearly and effectively for protocols and documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with mice, including manipulation and genotyping, is highly desirable

Other Requirements

  • Medical clearance and participation in the medical surveillance program + Work involves laboratory animals
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements

Job Type: Officer of Administration

Regular/Temporary: Regular

Hours Per Week: 35

Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
