About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Developmental Immunology Research Group of Professor Georg Holländer in the Department of Paediatrics as our Laboratory Manager.

You will play an important role in the contribution of the understanding of the genetic and epigenetic control of the development, maintenance and function of the thymus whilst supporting day-to-day lab operations, ensuring a clean, safe, and organised laboratory environment.

You will be responsible for supporting ongoing immunobiological research working on research projects within the research programmes of the group, managing resources, ensuring efficient lab functionality, and maintaining compliance with safety standards. In addition, you will provide effective support through great communication and organisational skills.

You will be working in a growing department within the Medical Sciences Division. The Department of Paediatrics is a world leader in child health research and hosts internationally renowned research programmes in drug development, gastroenterology, haematology, HIV, immunology, neuroimaging, neuromuscular diseases and vaccinology. The Developmental Immunology Research Group under the lead of Professor Georg Holländer conducts research the molecular and cellular control of thymus development and function.

This position is offered full-time on a fixed-term contract initially two years with the possibility to extend provided further funding is available. Part-time applications may be considered (with a minimum of 80% FTE).

About you

You will have a scientific degree (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Immunology, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Laboratory Science), supplemented by relevant post-qualification experience with sufficient specialist knowledge and relevant experience of working in an interdisciplinary research team, with proven and demonstrable technical and laboratory management skills, including flow cytometry, basic molecular biology, cellular assays, cell culture techniques, and biological data analysis. You will possess strong organisational skills with the ability to manage resources, time, and priorities effectively. You will have highly effective verbal and written communication skills with all levels of staff and an ability to operate effectively in a demanding and busy research environment.
