Department Summary
Develops and implements inspections for biological research and teaching laboratories and facilities at Ohio University Inspections will be designed to assure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local regulations. Collaborates with the Biological and Radiological Safety Officer on the laboratory inspection program, concentrating on biological research and teaching facilities. Works with the faculty to develop, maintain, and track Biosafety Plans, Safety Animal Use Plans, and Bloodborne Pathogens Plans. Assists in the development and implementation of training programs, including tracking of participants.
May serve as an Environmental Health and Safety Department alternate on various committees, such as the IACUC or IBC. Assists Principal Investigators and coordinates with the Office of Research Compliance on database management.
Position Profile
Supports University staff, faculty, and students in the safety of laboratories, facilities, equipment, etc., by ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations through inspection, testing, consultation, coaching, training, recommendation, etc. Advises on environmental hazards preparedness and ensures that the University operates in a safe and secure environment.

Provides professional expertise to the University community. Serves as a resource and guide to others in the department and/or university. Completes operational tasks essential for the daily functioning of the University. Additionally, contributes to larger projects or initiatives that align with department or University goals, often collaborating across teams.

Physical Requirements
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 3-5 years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.

Pay Rate
The proposed salary range for this position is $44,592 to $59,085. The salary negotiated at the time of offer will be commensurate with education and experience while also considering internal equity.
