Laboratory Technician
Job Summary:
The College of Medicine, Department of Endocrinology is hiring for a Laboratory Technician working within Dr. Mishra’s lab working on research grants.
Overweight and Obesity is an epidemic affecting over half of the US population and is particularly high in the state of Kentucky. The Mishra Lab uses preclinical models to identify genes and pathways that influence the development of the disease states driven by obesity, including type 2 diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The candidate will employ a variety of analytical methods to assess physiological measures of various diseases states as well as changes in gene expression, protein expression, tissue histology, and cellular morphology.
Experience in animal husbandry, cell culture, protein and nucleic acid chemistry, and microscopy are desired. Precision, attention to detail, teamwork and initiative are essential. Analyzing experimental data, writing and presenting methods, technical reports, and research data essential for grant applications and publications are required.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:
Mouse care (inc. dissections), cell dissociation, RNA isolation, recombinant DNA techniques, cell biology, cell culture, Excel, attention to detail, verbal and written English-language proficiency.
Physical Requirements:
Moving and lifting object from floor to above shoulders up to 25 pounds. Standing and sitting at computer terminals and laboratory bench completing repetitive tasks for extensive periods of time. Continuous working with materials requiring personal protective equipment in accord with EH&S policy
Shift:
Primarily Days Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, some evenings and weekends may be required due to experimentation.
