Lead Mailroom Tech (Space Planning & Operations)
Job Description Summary
Under the direction of the Supervisor for Main Campus Operations, the SA-D (Lead Tech, Mailroom) coordinates the day-to-day operations of the PSOM's mail receiving and distribution function. The position coordinates with Distribution Services Supervisors and Sr Coordinator in training the Building Services Assistants ("BSA") in the Mailroom function. Under the Distribution Services Supervisor, works in conjunction with Receiving Lead Tech. Using the automated package tracking system, the Lead Tech operates, reconciles, and reports on volumes and statuses of Mailroom through-put. The Lead Tech oversees BSA proper use of the automated tracking system, cognizant of maintaining data integrity and ensuring proper collection of, and reporting on, barcode and other mail/package data. Assures that members of the Perelman School of Medicine community receive the highest quality services from the Distribution Services group within Space Planning & Operations. Note: This is a working Lead Technician Position and Lead Tech may be required to cover staff shortages in Receiving and Event-Support areas. The job requires walking, standing, use of standard tools, lifting, and moving of often-delicate equipment between 100-500 pounds. The job requires the ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted. The Lead Tech must be physically able to perform all functions of this position. This position is considered "essential."
Job Description
The minimum of a High School diploma and 3 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Technical School, Certification, training or apprenticeship beyond High School is a plus.
Ability to frequently lift and move heavy objects weighing 25-50 pounds or more; physically able to move about actively; must not be bothered by unpleasant odors; mechanical aptitude (may use tools requiring high dexterity as required in performance of job duties); must be customer service and team oriented and be able to interface and communicate with people at various organizational levels; ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, and follow verbal and written instructions; highly organized in work assignment and performance. Overtime is a frequent requirement of this position must be able to work overtime on short notice. This job requires the ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted. Must be physically able to perform all functions of this position.
Special Requirements
The Perelman School of Medicine is a multi-building research and teaching complex with emphasis on biomedical research. As such, and to ensure successful fulfillment of its mission (research and education), the School Community requires a much higher level of support service delivery than usually experienced in a typical academic environment. Problems that would be mere annoyances in some facilities have the potential of destroying thousands of dollars and months or years of often-irreplaceable work. The Department of Space Planning & Operations is responsible for coordinating and assuring uninterrupted delivery of the necessary utility and other support services.
