About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Learning and Academic Skills (LAS) Advisor to join Swinburne’s Academic Success team. Working closely with academic staff across Vocational Education and Higher Education, this role designs and delivers courses and learning resources that strengthen students’ academic language, skills and creative problem solving capability in dynamic learning environments in-person and online.
You will be responsible for delivering advice that is developmental rather than remedial, and integral to the ongoing process of improving the quality of teaching and learning and successful progression of local and international students within Swinburne. Acting as a key point of support for students, the role works in parallel with teaching teams to ensure learning approaches are aligned to Australian tertiary education standards and responsive to the needs of diverse student cohorts.
The position delivers engaging teaching across two or more specialist areas, prepares contemporary learning and assessment resources to support academic skills development, and monitors student progress through timely feedback and targeted learning support. You will also provide educational advice, contribute to student wellbeing through appropriate referrals, and support continuous improvement in teaching practice, learning materials and delivery models across the University.
About You
You are a passionate educator who is student-centred, collaborative and committed to inclusive teaching practice. You bring strong communication skills and the ability to adapt learning approaches to diverse cohorts. You will have:
- Substantial diverse knowledge in two or more of the following: academic English, learning and academic skills, maths, science or computer skills
- Demonstrated experience delivering high-quality teaching across diverse learning modes
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
- A commitment to continuous improvement, quality assurance and student success
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and be confident in supporting students from varied cultural, linguistic and educational backgrounds
- Passionate about assisting a broad range of students with their academic skills development
Qualifications
You will hold:
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent)
- AQF Level 5 (or above) qualification in Education or TESOL
- A relevant degree or vocational qualification aligned to Vocational Education programs
- A valid Working with Children Check (or the ability to obtain one prior to commencement)
