Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

As our new Library Learning Designer, you'll bring creative energy and design expertise to how we teach, learn, and share knowledge at UC.

You will:

  • Design and produce high-quality, visually engaging learning and communication materials — from videos, infographics, and guides to dashboards and digital content.
  • Work alongside librarians and academic staff to make complex ideas clear, accessible, and compelling for all learners.
  • Shape how library information is presented and experienced, applying user experience (UX) and information design principles across our digital platforms.
  • Build capability across our Library team by mentoring colleagues, offering templates, and promoting best practice in design, accessibility, and storytelling.
  • Ensure all learning materials reflect bicultural and inclusive design, honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and integrating Māori and Pasifika perspectives into our work.

This is a dynamic role that blends creativity, collaboration, and impact supporting our mission to make University of Canterbury's (UC) library a place where design and learning meet innovation.

Mōu | Who You Are

You are a confident, collaborative, and culturally aware designer who's passionate about education and the power of great design to enhance learning.

You will have:

  • 5+ years' experience in learning design, UX, graphic design, information design or related roles (ideally within education or research).
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal).
  • Experience designing accessible, engaging digital content that improves user experience and learning outcomes.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • A tertiary qualification in graphic design, education, learning design, information design or eLearning (NZQA Level 7 or equivalent).
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to bicultural and inclusive practice.
  • An alignment with our organisation's values and culture, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.

Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With

You'll be part of the Learning, Teaching and Research Services team within the UC Library - a creative, forward-thinking group that supports students and staff across all disciplines. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do, and you'll work closely with subject librarians, academics, and digital specialists to bring ideas to life.
