The New Ventures Team (NVT) within the Industry and Innovation (I&I) portfolio is focused on accelerating the development and establishment of new spinout companies from UNSW and to actively manage and support our existing and growing portfolio of companies from UNSW. The initiative aligns with UNSW’s 2025 Strategic Plan to increase research translation and create societal impact from UNSW research and will continue to be a key strategic pillar for the University.

Reporting the Senior Manager NVT, you’ll provide high-level strategic and operational assistance to the team who support new ventures including university startups and spinouts through incubation services, managing pre-seed investment funds, fostering investor relationships, and growing the equity portfolio through New South Innovations Pty Ltd (NSi).

You’ll also collaborate with UNSW Founders and Faculties to promote an entrepreneurial culture and expertise within the academic and research community.

Who you are

You have a relevant tertiary qualification and direct experience working with or in research-based spinouts or startups and, ideally, portfolio management, and can demonstrate the following skills and experience: -

• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate, influence and build consensus at senior levels and with diverse stakeholders on complex, sensitive issues.
• Planning and organisational skills, with experience in establishing priorities, allocating resources and meeting deadlines while working under pressure in a large, complex organisation.
• Analytical and conceptual skills including demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate new concepts and information and deliver positive, innovative solutions
• Developing and writing business case for industry, government and external end user partner audiences
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
• Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
