Lecturer 10 (Lecturer/Assistant Professor of Practice)
Stony Brook University’s Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) invites applicants for a non-tenure track teaching faculty position with an expected start date of Fall 2026.
The selected candidate should hold a Masters degree in applied mathematics, mathematics, statistics or a related field and have two years of teaching experience preferredly in statistics or a closely related field. Highly qualified candidates have demonstrated strong commitment to excellence in teaching and creating an engaging and supportive learning environment for all students. The selected candidate will hold the official title of Lecturer or a local title of Assistant Professor of Practice, contingent upon qualifications.
As a Lecturer in AMS, you will have a unique opportunity to inspire and guide students in applied mathematics, statistics, probability and related fields. You will be an integral part of our dedicated faculty in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, contributing to our mission of producing future generations of statisticians and applied mathematicians.
Teaching requirement: Four (4) courses per semester. The lecturers primary duties are instructional, teaching courses including, but not limited to, probability theory, mathematical statistics and applied statistics. Course assignment is at the Department Chair's discretion. Additional duties include activities such as course coordination and supervision of teaching assistants, as well as contributing to program initiatives and providing service to the department, College, and University community.
Required Qualifications:Masters degree, or foreign equivalent, in applied mathematics, mathematics, statistics or a related field. Two years of teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Ph.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) in applied mathematics, mathematics, statistics or related field. Additional years of teaching experience. Teaching experience in statistics or a closely related field. Strong background in statistics? and probability. Demonstrated excellence in teaching a wide range of courses in ?statistics,? probability and ?applied ?math. Experience teaching and managing large classes with enrollments of 150?250 students. Experience using software for online course assignments, such as MyLabStatistics.
