"Lecturer/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor in Chinese Language and Literature (Focus: Digital Humanities with Technology)"

The Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Hong Kong Shue Yan University invites applications for a full-time academic position. The appointee is required to start on 1st September 2026. The role involves teaching and developing at least three of the following courses: (1) Digital Humanities and Research Methodology; (2) Technology and Chinese Teaching; (3) Digital Humanities and Academic Writing; (4) First Year Chinese; and/or other related courses. The position level will be determined based on the applicant's academic background and qualifications.

Requirements

Possess a PhD in Chinese Language and Literature (with a focus on Digital Humanities), Digital Humanities with a focus on Chinese, computational linguistics, or related disciplines.

Capable of designing and delivering at least three of the specified courses.

For ranks above Lecturer, relevant teaching experience in tertiary education matching the applied rank: at least one year as Lecturer and/or Assistant Professor for Assistant Professor; five years as Assistant Professor for Associate Professor; seven years as Associate Professor for Professor.

Proficient in at least two of the following skills: text analysis tools (e.g., MARKUS, DocuSky, AntConc), programming languages (e.g., Python, R), data visualization (e.g., Gephi, Tableau), geographic information systems (e.g., ArcGIS, Google Earth).

Native or advanced proficiency in Putonghua and ability to integrate technology-enhanced teaching.

Good record of academic publications; experience in successfully applying for research grants is desirable.

Salary

Negotiable according to academic qualifications and experience.
