About the Position

The Visual Arts Department in the College of Arts & Media at CU Denver invites applicants to apply to the Lecturer in Art History position. This posting establishes a pool of part-time, non-tenure-track lecturers to teach up to two courses per term as needed. Appointments are temporary, lasting less than 50% of the time, and are made on a term-by-term basis.

What you will do:

The Art History program seeks student-centered art historians to teach a wide range of undergraduate art history courses, including introductory/survey courses and specialized upper-division offerings.

Teaching (100%):

  • Preparing course syllabi, lectures, presentations, and student assignments;
  • Evaluating student work;
  • Tracking student attendance and progress;
  • Managing courses on the online platform Canvas; and other related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Broad knowledge in the history of art and ability to teach:
- Art History (global survey) I: Ancient to Medieval Art
- Art History (global survey) II: Renaissance to Contemporary Art
- Contemporary Art
- History of Modern Design
Candidates who are ABD or have an MA with extensive teaching experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in the history of art, visual studies, architecture, museum studies, or related discipline. Preference to candidates in Colorado.

  • Ability to communicate effectively across a diverse population
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective teaching and working relationships with diverse students and teaching bodies.
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold confidentiality.
