Sydney Dental School (SDS)
As an academic school within the Faculty of Medicine and Health, SDS is consistently ranked as one of Australia's top dental schools. Through our delivery of integrated research, clinical training, and professional education, students benefit from the opportunity to gain experience in a diverse range of clinical facilities, to interact with dental and other health professionals, and develop an understanding of real-world challenges in oral health and healthcare.
We are seeking a Lecturer (Education) Level B to support student education in the Doctor of Dental Medicine program at the Sydney Dental School and to contribute to strengthening the School's clinical and educational governance framework.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- undertake independent teaching in a dentistry discipline and/or clinical dentistry, contributing to outstanding educational design, delivery, evaluation and outcomes
- engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University's expectations and standards for education
- design and deliver quality educational units of study and experiences that support student needs and meet curriculum requirements
- contribute to development and implementation of assessment in alignment with School, Faculty and University initiatives and policies
- engage in supervision of research students at undergraduate level, in accordance with the requirements and expectations of the School/ Faculty/ University
- apply scholarship and knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practice to innovate Education
- carry out administrative tasks primarily connected with the area of discipline
- contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
- understand and contribute to furthering the University and Faculty strategic agenda.
About you
- a dental qualification and current general registration as a dentist with the Dental Board of Australia (AHPRA), with a PhD (completed or near completion) considered desirable
- experience in delivering high quality teaching in dentistry across all student levels, supported by teaching and research in a tertiary environment. Experience in delivering clinical teaching essential.
- demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives that enhance student outcomes
- ability to collaborate with discipline heads and course coordinators to develop, deliver and mark teaching materials and assessments
- experience in supervising or mentoring colleagues and/or coordinating team activities to support professional growth and effective teamwork
- demonstrated excellence in research, scholarly activities relevant to the discipline, and educational design and practice
- capacity to undertake high quality research studies and publish in recognised journals in line with the School's minimum requirements
- strong written and verbal communication skills, combined with a collegiate, team oriented nature and experience working collaboratively
- highly developed organisational and planning skills, with the proven ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
