About This Opportunity

The School of Social Science is seeking an innovative and passionate Lecturer in Anthropology to contribute to a dynamic, collaborative, and intellectually rich environment. In this role, you will contribute to high-quality teaching in social and cultural anthropology, delivering core courses such as Medical Anthropology and Gender Studies while helping shape and strengthen the broader anthropology major. You will advance your research agenda, support curriculum renewal during a period of strategic growth, and have opportunities to lead and coordinate teaching activities, supervise Honours and Higher Degree by Research candidates, and contribute to meaningful academic leadership and service.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching: Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules.
  • Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

Applicants should possess a PhD in Anthropology or related field. Additionally, you will demonstrate:

  • A growing profile in teaching and research in the discipline area.
  • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups.
  • Experience in course coordination and contribution to the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.
  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.
