Lecturer in Criminology

The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.

We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.

Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.

The role

The post will be based in the Department of Sociology, a lively and collegiate department with a strong emphasis on both teaching and research, and will involve teaching across the range of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supervising dissertations, supervising placement students, and contributing to the pastoral care of students. In addition, you will be expected to assume an administrative role within the department.

About you

We are looking for candidates with a relevant doctoral degree awarded (or thesis submitted) and experience of delivering high-quality teaching, with specific focus on areas of technology, cybercrime and policing. You will also have expertise in criminal justice/criminology, with a digital/cyberspace application.

You must be able and willing to teach modules across the Department (in both Criminology and Sociology) and will also be happy to undertake key student support and relevant pastoral duties as well as other administrative duties.

In order to support our students in the coming academic term, candidates with immediate availability are preferred.

What we can offer

In addition to salary, you will receive a generous annual leave entitlement of 30 days holiday plus 7 university closure days and 8 bank holidays (pro rata for part time roles), a generous pension, access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.

How to apply

Please send a CV and cover letter outlining how you meet the requirements of the post via the job portal.

For informal inquiries please contact the Head of Discipline, Professor Daniel McCarthy (d.mccarthy@surrey.ac.uk).

Online interviews will be held 19th September.

The University of Surrey is committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equal opportunities for all. We place great value on diversity and are seeking to increase the diversity within our community. We therefore particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities.
