About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for 2 part-time (60%) Teaching Focused Lecturers in the Design area to grow your academic impact through leadership in course coordination and program-level service, contributing to implementation of curricular changes and development in the Bachelor of Design. You will engage in internal and external collaborations that influence teaching practices, and curriculum development The School of Architecture, Design and Planning (ADP) is looking to cover a period of staff absence.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching: Teach across a range of settings using evidence-based and innovative approaches to curriculum design, pedagogy, and learning resources. Coordinate and deliver lectures and tutorials, design and assess coursework for undergraduate and postgraduate programs, and contribute to the development of new, relevant course materials in collaboration with stakeholders. Support continuous improvement in teaching quality, engage in educational collaborations, maintain professional currency, and provide high-quality academic guidance to students while adhering to University policies and standards.
  • Citizenship and Service: Contribute to program-level service through leadership, decision-making, and committee participation while consistently demonstrating alignment with UQ values. Build and maintain external partnerships with industry, government, and the community, and show leadership through mentoring and collaboration. Support colleagues and provide coverage for academic roles as needed.

About You

Essential

  • Completed PhD or equivalent in Design or equivalent professional standing, demonstrated by a minimum of 10 years of industry experience in design practice.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in the Higher Education context is essential.
  • Evidence of high-quality university teaching in the Design area across a variety of settings, including small and large groups with course coordination responsibilities.
  • An emerging profile of teaching impact in the Design area and emerging profile in education research in the discipline.
  • Participation in projects that improve curriculum, pedagogy, or assessment practices of others.
  • Participation in curriculum development at the program and/or course level in the discipline area.
  • Active contribution in interdisciplinary design practice and demonstrated evidence of implementation in educational settings.
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal and consultative skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in teaching and learning.

Desirable

  • Proficiency in technical and digital capabilities relevant to contemporary design practice, including visual communication tools (Adobe Creative Cloud), Computer Aided Design, prototyping tools and processes.
  • Proficiency in sustainability focused design methods including circular design and sustainability impact measurement at product and service levels (Life Cycle Analysis).
  • Experience with the supervision of honours and Research Higher Degree students (where appropriate) in education research or discipline research.
  • A profile of professional expertise that aligns with the expertise that currently exists within the School and the broader University.
