Lecturer in Digital Media and Culture
About the role
As we continue to grow and strengthen our department, we are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Digital Media and Culture until 31 December 2026 to support our new online Master’s programmes: the MSc in Digital Economies and the MA in Digital Futures.
This appointment is made on the College’s Academic Education Pathway (AEP), meaning that its focus is on education, pedagogy and the delivery of our student experience in the Department. This post is an opportunity for a qualified individual to play a role in shaping our vision of a diverse and innovative Department of Digital Humanities at one of the most prestigious universities in the UK.
For this role, we are looking for an expert in Digital Media and Culture with experience in one or more relevant areas, including but not limited to the following: digital economy, AI and society, digital media and platforms, digital industries, digital marketing.
We are also interested in candidates who can contribute to our teaching and training programmes in areas of critical digital practice related to these areas, and we particularly welcome applications from candidates with relevant professional experience outside academia.
Key responsibilities of the role are to deliver high-quality teaching and dissertation supervision on our online Master’s programmes, to contribute to the future development of the department, and to participate in a supportive, collegiate culture. There will be opportunities to be responsible for aspects of departmental administration. Mentorship will be provided to enable the postholder to gain experience and develop professionally. We welcome candidates who can bring global/non-UK perspectives to our curricula.
While the post-holder will focus primarily on online teaching and supervision, responsibilities may include on-campus teaching and/or supervision if needed.
There are two posts available, both are full time (35 Hours per week), fixed term contracts until 31/12/2026.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- PhD qualified in relevant subject area (completed or submitted by the time of application), or an equivalent qualification or professional experience in a relevant field
- An in-depth understanding of Digital Media and Culture and/or a related area
- Experience and/or demonstrable understanding of designing and delivering teaching
- Experience and/or demonstrable understanding of online teaching and/or distance learning
- Ability to communicate clearly and convincingly both orally and in writing to a wide range of individuals and groups, including overseas students, academic and professional services colleagues, and our cultural and industry partners
- Experience of effective supervision, assessment, marking, and provision of feedback for students
- Experience of contribution to departmental administration
- Experience of providing personal and pastoral support for students
Desirable criteria
- A recognized teaching qualification in Higher Education
- Work experience relevant to the field
Grade and Salary: £45,031- £52,514 per annum, including London Weighting Allowance
