Lecturer in Economics

About the role

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Economics to join the School of Economics at ULSB. You will undertake a balanced portfolio of research, teaching and administration, contributing to the School’s strategic objectives and academic profile. You will be expected to take a proactive approach to developing an independent and collaborative research agenda, producing outputs of international excellence suitable for future REF submission, securing external research funding, and enhancing the School’s visibility through conference activity and scholarly engagement. The role also involves contributing to the School’s impact and engagement agenda through interaction with business, policy and other external stakeholders.

Alongside research, you will contribute to the delivery and development of undergraduate and postgraduate curricula in economics, providing high-quality teaching, assessment and academic supervision. You will supervise postgraduate research students, support innovation in teaching and assessment practice, and contribute to curriculum development, including the design of new modules or programmes where required. The role includes pastoral responsibilities, participation in quality assurance and enhancement activities, and engagement in administrative and leadership duties within the Department, School and wider University.

About you

You will hold a PhD in economics, or be close to completion, or have equivalent significant professional experience, and will demonstrate recognised expertise in a relevant area of the discipline. You will have an emerging record of publications in internationally excellent journals and a clearly articulated research programme aligned with the strategic priorities of the School. You will bring experience of delivering teaching to undergraduate or postgraduate students and will hold, or be willing to obtain, a recognised academic teaching qualification or appropriate category of HEA Fellowship within a reasonable timeframe.

You will demonstrate the ability to initiate and deliver high-quality research, contribute to grant applications, and work effectively both independently and collaboratively. Strong communication skills, confidence in teaching across a range of delivery methods, and a commitment to enhancing the student learning experience are essential. Experience of supervising dissertations or postgraduate researchers, contributing to distance learning provision, and engaging with external partners or impact activity will be advantageous, as will the ability to contribute to mentoring and the development of colleagues within the School.
